Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental conditions, affecting both children and adults. At Ascend Psychiatry & Therapy in Tukwila, Washington, we specialize in diagnosing and treating ADHD in individuals aged 14 and older.

What is ADHD?

ADHD is a condition that affects how a person thinks, focuses, and controls their behavior. While it is most commonly diagnosed in childhood, many individuals are not diagnosed until adulthood, when symptoms begin interfering with work, relationships, and daily responsibilities. ADHD presents in three main types: predominantly inattentive, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive, and combined type.

Symptoms of ADHD in Adults

Adult ADHD often looks different than childhood ADHD. Common symptoms include difficulty concentrating on tasks, chronic disorganization, forgetfulness in daily activities, trouble managing time and meeting deadlines, restlessness or feeling constantly on the go, impulsive decision-making, difficulty maintaining relationships, and frequent mood swings. Many adults with undiagnosed ADHD have spent years struggling without understanding why everyday tasks feel so overwhelming.

Our Approach to ADHD Treatment

At Ascend Psychiatry, Ethiopia Zerfu, ARNP, PMHNP-BC, takes a holistic and client-centered approach to ADHD treatment. Our process begins with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation to accurately diagnose ADHD and rule out other conditions that may present similar symptoms, such as anxiety or depression.

Treatment may include medication management with stimulant or non-stimulant medications tailored to your needs, therapeutic strategies for building organizational skills and coping mechanisms, ongoing monitoring and adjustment of your treatment plan, and coordination with other healthcare providers when needed.

ADHD Treatment for Teens

We provide specialized care for adolescents aged 14 and older who are navigating the challenges of ADHD during critical developmental years. Academic struggles, social difficulties, and emotional regulation issues are common during this time, and early intervention can make a significant difference in long-term outcomes.
